Through the Years

German immigrant, William R. Ludwig, began using his bookbinding trade to support his family in the New World. His new home in Morgantown had no commercial binding operation, so he opened The Acme Publishing Company. A significant portion of the business involved ledger book binding, used in countless companies around Morgantown.
Mr. Ludwig expanded into commercial printing and moved his company into a building on Front Street (now University Avenue).

Early 20th

A group of investors bought and incorporated the company as Morgantown Printing & Binding, making E.M. Grant the president of the new corporation. They retained W.R. Ludwig as the general manager of the operation until January of 1916.
This same group of investors sold their interest to a group, maintaining W.R. Ludwig as chairman of the board and general manager. Mr. Ludwig held this association until his death in 1934.

The building on Front Street (postcard from December 1909) burned down and the company relocated to 163 Kirk Street. This remained the company’s headquarters until 1999.
Economic stress associated with World War II spurred the Ludwig family to seek a buyer. Forest Thompson assumed ownership after becoming president of the board.

Mr. Thompson and his family sold the company to Albert “Bud” Everly, Jr., who had joined the company in 1945.
H. Andrew Walls III purchased the company and began an aggressive business expansion as the 5th owner of the longstanding company.

MPB moved to its present location on Greenbag Road and continued to grow.

Morgantown Printing & Binding rebranded and is now MPB Print & Sign Superstore. With four locations and state of the art production and mailing facilities, in house designers, sales and customer service teams, the company has grown significantly from its small beginning of 17 employees to a full time staff of over 50 employees.
